Prof. dr. Patti Valkenburg has been awarded the NeFCA Senior Career Award (Awards - NeFCA) during the annual conference ‘Etmaal van de Communicatiewetenschap’ in Bruges earlier this month.

The award recognizes scholars who have shown “substantive and quantifiable contributions, scientific as well as societal, to the field of communication studies”.The jury recognized her exceptional ability to foresee the significance of emerging media and integrate them into communication research, shaping the field in profound ways throughout her career.

About Patti Valkenburg

Patti M. Valkenburg (1958) has been professor of Youth and Media at the University of Amsterdam since 1998. In 2011, she was appointed distinguished research professor at the UvA's Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. She is founder and director of the Center for Research on Children, Adolescents and the Media (CcaM). In 2003, she received a Vici grant from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) and an Advanced Grant from the European Research Council (ERC) in 2009. She was awarded the prestigious NWO Spinoza Prize, the highest scientific prize in the Netherlands, in 2011.
