    Dr. Bas van den Putte is Director of the College of Communication at the University of Amsterdam and Professor of Health Communication at the Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR, UvA). Dr. van den Putte is an expert on sociocognitive theories of health behavior and advertising, and is an experienced researcher in the field of formative and evaluative research in health prevention.

    His aim is to initiate and conduct research that increases theoretical insight into the relationship between content of health campaigns, interpersonal communication, and health behavior (change) as well as can be used by practitioners to increase the effectiveness of health campaigns via traditional and new media, schools and/or institutional settings. Van den Putte cooperated with and participated as a member of the research and communication advisory boards of organizations such as Trimbos Institute, Netherlands Nutrition Centre, Rutgers/Sti Aids Netherlands, RIVM, Ministry of General Affairs, and Ministry of Safety and Justice.

    In the past he has received grants from NWO (Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research) and ZonMW (Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and development), as well as grants from numerous health promoting institutions (e.g., Lung Foundation, Trimbos Institute, Stivoro, Sti Aids Netherlands). His work includes longitudinal evaluation studies of smoking cessation, cannabis education, and condom use campaigns. He has served on the advisory board of studies into alcohol use, alcohol advertising, tobacco cessation, and dieting.
