  • Profile

I am an Assistant Professor at the Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR). Before I joined ASCoR, I held multiple research and teaching positions at the Vrije Universteit Amsterdam.

    Research

My research focuses on the characteristics of moralizing communication and its effects on public opinion formation across various communication contexts: satire, journalism, and corporate communication. I analyze the content and structure of moralizing messages in the public domain concerning topical, contentious issues, and investigate how they influence citizens' social and political decision-making.

My main research interests include framing, figurative language (i.e., metaphor, hyperbole, irony), and misinformation. In the context of corporate communication, I am for instance working on several (team-)projects that aim to integrate the scientific literature on misinformation and corporate social responsibility (CSR) by focusing on CSR-washing, like greenwashing.

In studying these topics, I use a variety of methods, including surveys, experiments, content analysis, systematic reviews, and meta-analysis.

    Teaching

I am specialized in teaching methods courses (e.g., about experiments) and supervising bachelor and master theses.
