What went well and what went wrong
Sexually explicit materials and sexting are now common parts of growing up, bringing many risks and opportunities to adolescents' well-being. Yet, most research rather focuses on the presence/absence of negative effects. In this talk, I will introduce the four studies comprising my dissertation that employ various methodologies (cross-sectional survey, longitudinal design, and ecological momentary assessment) to discuss different approaches to studying these phenomena and their - both positive and negative - relation to adolescents' well-being. Rather than discussing the results at length, a particular emphasis will be placed on the things that did not go according to the plan, from sampling issues to methodological problems.
Michaela Lebedíková is a PhD candidate at the Department of Media Studies and Journalism and a member of the Interdisciplinary Research Team on Internet and Society (https://irtis.muni.cz/) at the Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University (MUNI), Brno, Czechia. She is currently a visiting PhD at the University of Amsterdam. Michaela is interested in how sexually explicit content and sexting affect well-being. For her PhD, she's studying adolescents, but in the past, she was interested in young women as viewers of pornography.
