Dr. Priska Breves, who will be joining the ASCoR Persuasive Communication group as Assistant Professor in August, received the best student paper award of the ICA’s Communication and Technology division for her article “Biased by being there: The persuasive impact of spatial presence on cognitive processing.”

In the experimental study, the level of spatial presence and the quality of persuasive arguments were manipulated to detect the dominant processing mode under conditions of high spatial presence.

She and her colleagues furthermore received the promising student paper award of the Information System division for their paper “Blind trust? The importance and interplay of parasocial relationships and advertising disclosures in explaining influencers’ persuasive effects on their followers.”

Two studies were included in this paper, which analyzed the impact of parasocial relationships with social media influencers on persuasion knowledge and persuasive effectiveness.
