After two successful editions, AISSR, the VU-GSSS (Graduate School Social Sciences) and ASCoR welcome all PhD's to the third PhD Career Day, with speakers, trainers, experts and alumni from the academic and non-academic sector. The aim is to provide PhD's with perspectives and practical advice on how they can prepare for their career at this moment in their PhD trajectory.

Welcome by Prof. Dr. Karen van Oudenhoven-van der Zee, Dean of the faculty of Social Sciences (VU)

Two breakout sessions:
1) networking/ personal branding by ProActief UvA
2) grant proposal writing by dr. Marcel Giezen (IXA) (maximum of 15 people)

Coffee break    

15:00– 15:45:
Presentation by dr. Alexandre Afonso (Leiden University) on how different European academic labour markets are organized.

15:45- 16:45:
Five alumni (of ASCoR, VU and AISSR) talking about their career path within and outside the scientific field:

  • Catherine de Vries (Professor Political Science VU)
  • Linda Duits (Diep Agency & Institute for Cultural Inquiry (ICON) and more)
  • Hanneke Hendriks (Assistant Professor at ASCoR)
  • Jacomijne Prins (research outside academia)
  • Levi van den Bogaard (Consultant and Institutional Researcher at Fontys Hogescholen)

16:45- 17:30:
Closure and drinks. Photographer Peter Gerritsen will be there to make portrait photos you can use for your LinkedIn page or other social media profile.
