Stefan Bernritter received NeFCA Dissertation Award 2016
At last week’s Etmaal van de Communicatiewetenschap in Ghent, Stefan Bernritter received the NeFCA Dissertation Award for his dissertation “Examining Consumers’ Online Brand Endorsements on Social Media”. The award aims to acknowledge excellent dissertations in the field of Communication Sciences and wants to recognize the quality of doctoral research in the Netherlands and Flanders.
According to the jury, a distinguishing feature of the winning dissertation was that it provided clear, well-supported arguments and a convincing interpretation of the findings. Moreover, this dissertation exceled, because it investigated the phenomenon in question with a very holistic yet consistent approach - it did not only take into account the individual perspective on the phenomenon, but also the cultural one.
The jury commended Stefan for carrying out an impressive amount of studies to gather the data and provide analyses. The jury also appreciated that the author proved repeatedly to be aware of the shortcomings coming from methodological choices made.
Last but not least, the layout, professional book design and flow of the dissertation were esthetically pleasing and easy to follow. Each chapter was a logical continuation of the previous one, while suggestions for further research in preceding chapters were addressed in consequent ones.
Stefan defended his dissertation in February 2016. It was supervised by Edith Smit and Peeter Verlegh.
